- In front of Pasadena's First AME Church from right to left: Sergeant Ted Bartlett, Mother Fay Frances Mackie Bartlett, Richard Bartlett (not in uniform but also served), and James Bartlett (Special Services). Oldest brother Ray Bartlett (1919-2008) served in World War 2 and retired from the Army Reserves in 1979 as a Chief Warrant Officer. After UCLA, Ray was the third African American police officer in Pasadena, serving 1947 to 1967. The first three police officers were known as the three R's - Riddle, Reynolds, and Ray (Bartlett).
