- Description
- The Pasadena Japanese gakuen was established in 1910 on 56 Elevado Street (later, Del Mar Avenue). It served as a storage place for area Japanese during World War II but was heavily vandalized. In the front row from the left are Hiroe Yamane (married Lt. Toyota), Fusae Hamane (in light skirt), Lillian Iwata (of South Pasadena whose father had gas station), Elsie Morita, Fujiko Sameshima (brother attended USC), and the last girl was the daughter of a minister who had a small congregation in his home next to the Japanese school. The first girl on the left in the back row is Keiko Oshiro (florist on California and Raymond) and on the most right is Yani Watanabe (nursery).
