- Even as a little girl, Elsie loved tennis. Her father, Jiro, was also very fond of tennis. Elsie would hit the tennis ball against the garage door. Next to the J. Morita Market was a vacant lot and a pickle factory (shown in photograph). Elsie played tennis into her sixties, and then golf. Elsie Uyematsu was the administrative assistant for the UCLA Asian American Studies Center from 1969 to 1991.
