- Description
- Elsie Morita's (in plaid, fifth from the left in the middle row) graduating class from Abraham Lincoln Elementary in Pasadena. One of Elsie's good friends was Lois Prince (standing in middle row second from left). But Elsie's mother thought she should not play with Blacks so they would walk from school together and then part just before they got home. Lois had a grand piano in her home. Standing next to Lois is Thelma Moore. The other Nisei children include Gus Uchida (sitting in most right corner), son of Bellfontaine Nursery's Kuniyoshi Uchida who came to Pasadena in 1906 and was also a charter member of the Japanese Union Church. Edgar Fukutaki is sitting fifth from right; his father Sueuo was a partner at Meiji Laundry. Sitting in the very left is Midori Yamaoka who also lived on Kensington Avenue. Behind Midori and next to Lois is Tazuko Ito who lived with her sister, Setsuko, and her widowed mother. Elsie also remember Jacklyn Bunche as the family had parties with both Japanese and Blacks attending. And Elsie remembers David Jones (sitting third from right) as he was "so cute."
