Believe this to be John Muir. How Pasadena City College ended up with this photograph is unclear, but we do know from Sid Gally a volunteer at the Pasadena Museum of History as reported in the Pasadena Star News in 2014 that Muir was friends with Jeanne C. Carr. She and her husband Ezra Carr owned Pasadena’s Carmelita Gardens where the Norton Simon Museum now stands. According to Mrs. Carr, she first met Muir in Madison, Wisconsin. Jeanne C. Carr and her husband Ezra Carr owned Pasadena’s Carmelita Gardens where the Norton Simon Museum now stands. Jeanne Carr wrote an article for the June 1892 issue of The California Illustrated Magazine telling how she first encountered John Muir in Madison, Wisconsin. Later, Jeanne Carr and John Muir corresponded for many years and he called her his spiritual mother.
