- Description
- Left to right: Roberto (1902-1995), Enrique (1900-1998), Ruperto (1907-2000), and Pascual Nava in Los Angeles. The brothers were born in Zacatecas and came to US during the Mexican Revolution. When Ruperto, the youngest of 12, was five years old, their parents died. The boys went to New Mexico after the 1914 Battle of Zacatecas. As teenagers, one brother became a treasurer and the other was the postmaster in Silver City, New Mexico. Young Ruperto took care of cows. In 1918, the young Nava brothers came to San Gabriel where their older sister, Isabel, was already living. They lived close to each other around Pearl Street in San Gabriel, south of the SPRR railroad tracks. Enrique was a florist for Frank Seward of San Gabriel. Roberto was a groundskeeper for the San Gabriel Country Club for 50 years. Ruperto was an estate gardener in Pasadena. The brothers were active with the logia, funeraria, Progresista, and the mutualista of San Gabriel, especially Alianza Hispano Americana.
