Rose Tournament Court Chosen,
Queen To Be Announced Later
Seven attractive co-eds from jaysee were chosen by the Tournament of Roses Association last Tuesday night
as Princesses of a Royal Court to represent the city at all formal occasions during the coming New Year’s
festivities.
The seven girls, one of whom will later be chosen queen, were selected by a Tournament of Roses committee,
headed by William Nicholas, after several weeks of tryouts in which several thousand girls competed.
The Princesses include three girls living in Pasadena two in Altadena, one in South Pasadent and one in
Alhambra.
These representative Pasadena Junior College girls were selected on the basis of poise, speaking ability,
photogenic qualities, as well as general attractiveness. All of the seven have high scholastic ratings.
PJC students will honor their “royal associates” at the annual Royal Ball scheduled for the Civic Audi¬
torium, Monday, December 18. While the dance is primarily for the students, the public will be admitted, it
was announced. Featured will be Joe, “Pagliacci of the piano”; Reichman and his orchestra. Admission is a
dollar ten cents per couple with a ticket from the student activity book. Tickets may be purchased today at the
Triton Booth and student bank or at the Civic Auditorium the night of the ball. The dance will be informal.
During the evening the Rose Princesses will lead th? processional in a large semi-circular arc across the dance
floor and up to the band stand. There they will be formally introduced and will speak to the dancers.
Honored guests of the evening will be the seven princesses and their parents, the coronation committee,
members of the Tournament of Roses executive commi:tee, PJC faculty members and the parents of the social
affairs committee.
The first Royal Ball was held in 1938 and was attended by several hundred couples. This year, according
to Miss Catherine Robbins, Dean of Women, an estimated record crowd of four to five hundred couples is ex¬
pected to be present to honor the 1945 Tournament Court.
All preparations for the Ball are being handled by the Social Affairs Committee, headed by Secretary Nancy
Young. Aiding her are: Bob Aston, Florence Bevis, Jan Craig, Lois Jackson, Marge Snyder, Dale Harrison and
Ray Sparks. The art department and social affairs group are working together on special decorations for the
affair.
