June Graduation
To Be Impressive;
'Lincoln' Is Theme
To PJC graduates, thinking not so much of graduation
as of awesome finals, last week went Ida E. Hawes 1941
Rose Bowl plans. The theme chosen by Senior Class prexy
Bob Heublein, his committee Barbara Fitch, Virginia
Horn, Watson Burns, Clarence Thurber, is built around
the question “What is the basis for hope and optimism in the
world today?” Deciding each step of progress in the world
has furthered the cause of humanity, that this “Principle”
is fundamentally, universally true, that always light will end
a period darkened by war, greed, hate, the committee set
about finding a symbol of their answer. Needing someone
who stood for ideal Americanism, represented broad under¬
standing, sense of responsibility, knew the meaning of fair
play, the committee selected Abraham Lincoln as the ideal
American leader personifying these qualities.
