Football Circus Draws 45,000
With 45,000 loyal football fans yelling themselves hoarse, the seventh annual P.-T. A. Milk Fund
Football Circus was held in the Rose Bowl last Tuesday evening, October 7, with ten near-by schools
participating. ;
Teams, paired off as to their relative strength and size of the school, and played twenty min¬
ute quarters, being divided into East and West squads. Coach Tom Mallory’s varsity eleven repre¬
senting the East, tangled with the Glendale Jaycee Vaqueros, while Nor Jaqua’s Bullpups were pair¬
ed with the Glendale High School squad. The remainder of the East team consisted of Mark Keppel,
Monrovia, and Alhambra; the West, South Pasadena, Hoover, and Burbank.
One of the high lights of the football classic was the half time program, featuring Victor Mc-
Laglen’s motor cycle squad, which performed on the turf between the third and fourth contests.
Each team was accompanied by their own school band, playing between quarters.
A banquet, sponsored by the Glendale Junior Chamber of Commerce, was held Tuesday, Sep¬
tember 30, at which the coaches, principals, band leaders, and representatives of the various partici¬
pating schools were honored. The purpose of the dinner, held at the Oakmont Country Club, was to
discuss final arrangements for the Circus, as to transportation for the squads, band participation,
and uniforms. Mike Pecarovich and Charlie Erb of the Football School of the Air, were the guest
speakers of the evening.
All money gathered by the Parent-Teachers’ Associations of the various cities taking part in the
circus, will be used exclusively for local welfare work.
