Pasadena minister consents
to speak at Baccalaureate
On June 14 members of the Pasadena City College gradu¬
ating class of 1959 will gather in Sexson Auditorium to par¬
ticipate in the annual Baccalaureate service. The minister who
will speak to the assembled audience will be the Rev. Charles
L. Copenhaver, minister of the
Oneonta Congregational Church
of South Pasadena.
Born in Winchester, Va., the
Rev. Copenhaver graduated from
Hughes High School in Cincin¬
nati, O. He entered Ohio Wesley¬
an University and received his
BA degree with honors in philos¬
ophy in 1938.
After a tour of Great Britain
and the continent during the sum¬
mer of 1938, Dr. Copenhaver en¬
tered Union Theological Semin¬
ary. He was graduated from this
institution with the BD degree in
1941. While doing his BD work
at Union, he also became a candi¬
date for a degree at Columbia Uni-e
versity and was granted the MA
in education from that institution
in 1940. During this period of
graduate study, he served as min¬
ister of the Edgehill Community
Church in New York City.
In 1942 Dr. Copenhaver began
serving as minister to the Plain-
field Congregational Church in
Plainfield, N.J. After six years
he moved to a ministry in the
Glen Ridge Congregational
Church in Glen Ridge, N.J. He
served there for a period of ten
years.
In February 1958 he was called
to serve as minister of the One¬
onta Congregational Church in
South Pasadena, and is currently
enjoying his new home with his
wife, Marian, and three children,

Literary contest
honors students
Winners of the recently con¬
ducted Literary Contest were an¬
nounced by English Department
Chairman Woodrow Ohlsen at the
department’s annual awards tea
held in Harbeson Hall yesterday.
A first prize book award in the
field of poetry was received by
Jon Harmon. Sharon Elliott fin¬
ished second and Michael Sween¬
ey and Pete Becker were accord¬
ed honorable mention.
Betty Clutterbuck received a
book award for her first prize
effort in the essay and article di¬
vision of the contest. Don Blan¬
kenship placed second, followed
by Edward Schwartz. An honor¬
able mention certificate went to
Misako Yuge.
Additional books awards for
the best short stories were pre¬
sented to Robert D. LaRue, who
placed first, second-running Zeta
Barbour and third place -finisher
Sharon Elliott.
Chad, Janice and Martin.
A number of the Rev. Copen-
haver’s articles have appeared in
the Christian Century, The Pulpit,
Advance and other periodicals. He
is a former associate editor of
the Minister’s Quarterly and he is
listed in the “Who’s Who in the
East,” 1957 edition.

membership in Omicron Mu Del¬
ta, Order of Distinguished Service.
Selection for membership in OMD,
the highest honorary fraternity
on campus, is based on outstand¬
ing service to the college. Those
