in Assembly Tapping Rites
The highest honor which the students of Pasadena City College can bestow upon those
who have served her faithfully was awarded yesterday to 11 students and one faculty mem¬
ber, as Omicron Mu Delta, the Order of Distinguished Service, hgld its sixth tapping ceremony
as an organization of the two-year college. Following the custom established last year, in

Pasadena City College paid trib¬
ute yesterday to its outstanding
students during the annual
Awards Assembly which is held
at the end of each college year.
Awards and scholarships were
presented to 17 students in the
assembly which also honored Omi¬
cron Mu Delta’s new tappees.
Ardyce L. Gilbert received the
Altrusa Club International schol¬
arship. Chuck Phifer was the re¬
cipient of the Alumni Citation.
Marianna B. Maier and Priscilla
R. Rockwell were presented with
the America Association of Uni¬
versity Women scholarships.
American Legion Post 13 med¬
als went to Diane Mammano and
Chuck Ayres.
Michi Ishikawa has received a
full four year scholarship to the
Curtis Institute of Music and Di¬
ane Barrington and Jerry Van
Meter received scholarships from
Occidental College.
The Exchange Club of Pasadena
Scholarship went to the old ASB
president, Ed Brower, the Kiwanis
Club awards to Pat Winchell and
John C. Thurman, and the Pasa¬
dena Elks to Diane Barrington.
Administration honors, which
means students who received
them do not have to take finals,
went to Ward T. Brien, Phyllis
D. Haugh, Eunice M. Ramsauer
and Charlotte Smith.
As. Dr. William B. Langsdorf
stated in his preface to the annual
awards booklet, “By their achieve¬
ment and by their contribution to
the life of the college, they have
earned recognition and honor.”
Foreign Language
Society Originated
A recent initiation began the
first organized meeting of Alpha
Mu Gamma, national honorary
foreign language society, on the
PCC campus.
To be eligible for membership a
student must have had three se¬
mesters of unrepeated college
language (or equivalent) with
two “Ars” and one “B.”
Officers elected for this newly-
formed organization are: presi¬
dent, Mike Rozsa; vice'-president,
Albert Gregorjew; secretary,
Alice Courousie; treasurer, Netty
Liu; arid historian, Jon Swedlow.
Music Major Announced
as Lancer Valedictorian
Charlbtte A Smith, a PCC honor graduate with an “A”
average, has been announced as the Lancer valedictorian for
the June 13 Rose Bowl Commencement Exercises. Miss Smith’s
topic will be “The World at the Crossroads.” Two high school

Rehearsals began this week for
the annual Baccalaureate cere¬
mony which will be held on June
9 at 8:15 p.m. in Sexson Audito¬
rium.
The service will be highlighted
by an address by the Reverend
Arthur E. Harrington, Methodist
Conference executive secretary,
speaking on “Our Greatest Hu¬
man Need.” The Reverend Wil¬
liam Gwynn of the Lake Avenue
Congregational Church of Pasa¬
dena will give the invocation and
benediction for the event.
The graduates will be fully at¬
tired in their caps and gowns and
stoles which will be' issued just
previous to the religious cere¬
mony.
Parents and friends of the grad¬
uating class are cordially invited
to attend and no admission will
be charged. Tickets, however,
must be obtained in advance from
the Student Bank.
•Pageant
Students are reminded they
can pick up their 1957 Pageant
beginning tomorrow in the Stu¬
dent Bank. The yearbook is
free students who bring their
ASB books with them to the
Bank. The annuals will be
available during the final week
of school in the Student Bank
for the convenience of both
graduating and freshman stu¬
dents.

Muir High School and Bill Paden
of Pasadena High, will share vale¬
dictorian honors with the junior
college speaker.
Miss Smith is a music major
who plans to attend Occidental
College in the fall. She was re¬
cently awarded several music
awards and scholarships includ¬
ing the C. O. Arnold Award and
a $50 A Cappella Choir scholar¬
ship. The Arnold Award is pre¬
sented to the student who has
given outstanding service to the
Music Department.
An Alpha Gamma Sigma mem¬
ber, Miss Smith has a cumulative
point ratio of 2.98. For main¬
taining this record, she received
administration honors and is one
of five graduates who are ex¬
cused from taking all final exam¬
inations for the spring semester.
As a member of Madrigals and
of the PCC A Cappella Choir,
Miss Smith had the lead in the
recent Spring Music Concert, “The
Lowland Sea.” She also was a
contributor to PCC’s literary an¬
thology, Pipes of Pan, and re¬
ceived an honors extraordinary
certificate in literature at the Eng¬
lish Honors Tea.
