KING
ARTHUR’S
COURT
Challenges of strength and skill, prizes galore, plus fun times,
cotton candy, and loads of other goodies will be available Friday
night at the annual OMD Carnival. Festivities are from 6-10 p.m.
on Horreli Field. Various active organizations on campus are
sponsoring booths, while the proceeds will go to the John Harbeson
Scholarship.
Knights of Olde meet
for tampus festivities
Under the theme, “King Arthur’s Court,” the greatest
little show of the year, the OMD Carnival, is slated to make
its annual appearance this Friday night on Horreli Field.
Strung along an imaginary pathway, 30 fun-filled booths will
shake to the laughter of PCC
students crowned with Robin
Hood hats.
Beginning at 6 p.m. and last¬
ing until midnight everyone will
thrill to the greatest variety of
activities ever seen.
Attractions such as a dragon's
den for dancing, a hammer and
bell for showing off strength and
a skill game of shaving balloons
won’t be missed by students.
BOWS AND arrows will abound
and throwing accuracy will be
tested at the whip cream throw,
the monkey dunk, and the sponge
throw. Pizza and refreshments
will be sold.
Concessions are aiming toward
the trophies awarded to booths
with the most original design and
decoration, and the most in keep¬
ing with the theme.
Each department is interested
in electing its candidate for OMD
queen. Voting for her majesty
is traditionally done by placing
pennies in jars.
PROCEEDS FROM the carnival
help to finance the $100 Harbeson
Scholarship Award which the
OMD gives to an outstanding
freshman man and woman.
OMD members have presented
this year’s theme with the hope
that it will be one of the finest in
the carnival’s 33 years of exist¬
ence. To help insure its success
the affair has been placed in the
capable hands of Charlotte Fedde,
Larry Dominguez, and the rest of
the OMD members.
The OMD Carnival has had a
long and exciting history begin¬
ning in 1928 when it was first
staged under the theme ‘‘Leap
Year Frolic.” Each successive
year has seen the carnival become
larger and more successful.
•Editor’s note
This special issue of the Cour¬
ier is being published to pro¬
mote spirit and interest in Fri¬
day night’s OMD Carnival,
“King Arthur’s Court.” The
Courier staff extends an invita¬
tion to all Lancers to forget
their worries for a night, and
to come out in force for the
biggest time of their life.
Queen's crowning
climaxes carnival
Climaxing a week of voting will
be the announcement and subse¬
quent crowning of the 1961 OMD
Carnival Queen.
Letters were sent to each de¬
partment asking that it select a
candidate.
Penny jars have been placed
in the main hall in front of the
auditorium for the collection of
votes. Some of the candidates
also have representatives circu¬
lating about the campus with min¬
iature penny jars for voting con¬
venience.
All the money earned by the
OMD carnival will go towards the
annual Harbeson Award.
The voting will terminate Fri¬
day afternoon and the winner of
the contest will be crowned at
the carnival around 9:30 p.m.
This year’s queen and her court
will be presented with a special
scroll engraved in Old English as
a reminder of their evening spent
in King Arthur’s Court.
OMD head offers
letter of invitation
Fellow Students:
On Friday, May 5, the annual
spring OMD Carnival will be held
from 6 p.m. to midnight on Hor¬
reli Field. This is one of the high¬
lights of the school year, and I’d
like to extend a personal invita¬
tion (somewhat personal, any¬
way) from OMD to you.
The active clubs on campus,
each sponsoring a booth, will be
competing with each other for
trophies for decoration and orig¬
inality.
A wide variety of activities will
be featured: tests of strength and
skill with wonderfull prizes, food
in great amounts (cotton candy,
popcorn), entertainment, dancing,
and crowning of the OMD Queen.
An exciting evening of what al¬
ready promises to be the best car¬
nival we’ve ever had is in store
for you. Get in the spirit of King
Arthur’s Court— buy your hat,
vote for the queen, and join Lar¬
ry the Lancerlot this Friday night
at the Carnival.
