Students, Teachers Gain Recognition
During Traditional Tapping Assembly
PCC’s highest honorary organi¬
zation, Omicron Mu Delta, tapped
12 students and two honorary
members into its ranks at the
traditional OMD assembly this
morning.
Students who have given serv¬
ice to the college are considered
for membership. After careful
screening the following people
were selected for membership
honors on the basis of .extraordin¬
ary and unselfish service.
Susan Berdahl — Has given de¬
voted service as commissioner of
religious activities. Miss Berdahl
was personally responsible for the
success of the Religion in Life
Week. She has also helped in the
preparation of the ASB Installa¬
tion Banquet. She is currently
serving as vice-president of Spar¬
tans.
Rich Bond — Was recently elect¬
ed lieutenant governor of the
Calif ornia-N evada-Hawaii District
of Circle K. He has also served
as president of Circle K, president
of the Freshman Class, and com¬
missioner of athletics. Bond has
also given continuing service to
PCC as a member of AMS, Frosh
Council, Rep Council, and the
ASB Board.
Cheryl Coburn — Recognized for
untiring and unselfish service to
the Women’s Physical Education
Department. She has served as
president of WAA and WLC. She
has also participated in many of
PCC’s women’s athletic events.
Miss Cobum has also been an ac¬
tive member of the Life Science
Department. She has served as
hostess for the science seminar.
Susan Holmes — Has given out¬
standing service to PCC through
her work in the Women’s Physi¬
cal Education Department. She
has served as president and vice-
president of the Women’s Letter
Club and vice-president of WAA.
Her work has gone beyond what
has been asked of her. Miss
Holmes has also served as chair¬
man of the Student Curriculum
Committee this semester. She is
an active member of Spartans.
Elizabeth Patterson — Serving
this semester as executive editor
of the Courier, her work has ex¬
tended far beyond normal class¬
room responsibilities. Miss Patter¬
son has also served as managing
editor, business manager, and city
editor of the Courier. She is cur¬
rently president of Beta Phi Gam¬
ma and a member of the Student
Advisory Committee. She has also
served as publications commis¬
sioner and a member of the ASB
Cabinet.
Steve Rada — Has contributed
extraordinary service to PCC in
the realm of student activities. In
the fall of this year Rada was
elected as president of the Fresh¬
man Class. Because of his ef¬
ficient and business-like manner
he was elected ASB vice-president,
the capacity in which he now
serves the college. In the fall
Rada will take over the position
of ASB president.
Bob Schenk — Has devoted un¬
selfish service to the Foreign Lan¬
guage Department. His work as
publicity chairman for the For¬
eign Language Council has shown
his mature ability and judgment.
Schenk has also devoted many ex¬
tra hours of work for the better¬
ment of the department.
Judith Thiery — National cham¬
pion in oratory and oral interpre¬
tation. Miss Thiery recently re¬
ceived the first Carl Bovero Me¬
morial Trophy for the outstand¬
ing speaker at the national Phi
Rho Pi Tournament. She is also
an active member of Phi Rho Pi
and has received many awards
in speech for PCC. She is cur¬
rently working above the call of
duty as president of the Interna¬
tional Relations Club.
Eileen Tilford — Service to the
Music Department has been far
beyond the call of duty. She serves
as a member and soloist for all
the choirs, and gives unselfishly
of her time to performing for
groups on campus and throughout
the community. Miss Tilford is
an active member of the Music
Council and has served the coun¬
cil in an executive capacity.

n — As publicity
commissioner, has devoted many
hours of hard work to improve
the standards of publicity on cam¬
pus. He has also given an enor¬
mous amount of time to Circle K.

dent and sergeant of arms for

and is currently activities

Miss Brady was recognized for
her outstanding service to the Ju¬
nior Executives Club. She is now
serving as secretary to the organi¬
zation, which requires many extra
hours of work. She has also giv¬
en her time unselfishly to the Sec¬
retarial Club and Spartans where
she also serves as secretary.
Worsdell is currently serving
as finance commissioner. His job
involves much time and ability
and is one which he will hold
through the fall semester of next
year. He is also an active member
of the ASB cabinet and board.
In 1950 the scholarship fund
was set up by OMD. It was estab¬
lished in honor qf Dr. John W.
Harbeson who had served as pres¬
ident of the College from 1927 to
1950. He was the first honorary
president of OMD.

Catherine Wall — Work for the
Nursing Department has shown
her mature and able leadership.
She is currently president of
SNAP and has devoted many
hours of service in this capacity.
She is also PCC’s representative
to the Students Nurses of Cali¬
fornia and a member of the Inter-
Club Council.
Barney Whitesell — Has proved
his leadership capabilities in serv¬
ing as ASB president the fall se¬
mester. He quietly accepted re¬
sponsibilities and worked continu¬
ously for the betterment of stu¬
dent activities. Whitesell has giv¬
en unselfishly of his time and has
shown mature judgment in his
leadership. He has also served as
president of the Representative
Council, a job which required
many hours of outside work.
Mrs. Patti Mark — As adviser to
the Senate, Mrs. Mark has given
unselfishly of her time and serv¬
ice in helping students plan and
execute student activities. She
has also served as adviser to the
Secretarial Club and has worked
personally with students to help
them grow and mature. Her work
on the Personnel Evaluation Com¬
mittee has benefitted the faculty
greatly.
H. Woodrow Ohlsen — Honored
for untiring and unselfish service
in all phases of campus life. Ohl¬
sen serves in an official capacity
as chairman of the English De¬
partment, but his work extends
far beyond this area. He is advis-

at Dinner-dance
Newly -tapped OMD members
and Harbeson award winners will
be honored at a dinner-dance this
Saturday night from 7:30 to mid¬
night in the student dining room
of the Campus Center.
Past members of OMD will be
invited to the event. Membership
dates back to 1927 and members
from that time are expected to be
in attendance, according to Jim
Schmittling, OMD president. Dr.
Catherine Robbins, honorary pres¬
ident of OMD, will welcome all
new and old OMD members and
their guests. New tappees may
bring guests at $3 a person.

The John W. Harbeson award for outstanding scholarship
and service went to freshmen Carolyn Brady and Terry Wors¬
dell at the OMD assembly held this morning in Sexson Audito¬
rium. Each winner will receive $100 upon returning to the
