PCC Alumnus Juckie Robinson
Will Attend 1965 Homecoming
Jackie Robinson, one of Pasa¬
dena City College’s greatest ath¬

tend PCC’s 1965 Homecoming
Game with Pierce College Friday
at Horrell Field.
Robinson, who was elected to
the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962
by the Baseball Writers Associa¬
tion of America, played for Pasa-
Thursday's Rally
Aimed at Spirit
Homecoming Week will reach
the height in spirit Thursday at
noon at the roving pep rally, ac¬
cording to Matt Jefferson, head
cheerleader.
The Lancer Band will start the
rally by marching across the cam¬
pus to the patio outside the Cam¬
pus Center. Joining it there will
be President Armen Sarafian,
Coach Don Hunt, and the foot¬
ball team, a representative of the
Lancer Club, and the song girls
and cheerleaders.
Purpose of the program is to
get as large a contingent of sup¬
porters as possible at the Home¬
coming game Friday night.
Social Science
Seminars Slated
“The Individual in Modern So¬
ciety” is the general theme of a
series of four Social Science De¬
partment seminars to be present¬
ed this fall, according to Dr. Je¬
rome Wolf of the department fac¬
ulty.
At the first seminar, to be held
tomorrow in Harbeson Hall, the
group will try to identify the prob¬
lem. Robert Warren will speak
on “Mass Man and Alienation,”
John Snyder will discuss “Re¬
treat from Politics,” and John
Madden’s topic will be “The Mod¬
ern Worker and Puritan Ethics.”
A question and answer period
will follow the discussion. Meet¬
ings, which will all be held from
10:30 a.m. to noon in Harbeson
Hall, are open to all faculty mem¬
bers and students. Other semin¬
ars are set for Tuesday, Nov. 16;
Thursday, Dec. 2; and Tuesday,
Jan. 11.
Club to Decorate
Stands for Friday
Friday’s game will owe a lot to
the 625 Club.
The club, which is responsible
for all the decorations at PCC
football games, has its own seat¬
ing section on the 50-yard line.
Members distribute the white pon-
chose for those without white
shirts, sell booster buttons such as
the “Puncture Pierce” clip-ons
which went on sale yesterday, and
have sworn to a 100 per cent turn¬
out at all games.
George Fulks, chairman of the
625 Club, has a committee of 12
who work hand in hand with the
decorations committee in roping
off the reserved sections at all
football games. The club’s seats
are next to the Lancer Band,
Lancer Club, and the faculty sec¬
tions.
Both committees have been
working hard on plans for the big
Homecoming game with Pierce.
Organ Meeting
The Organ Guild will hold a
meeting tomorrow in IK at
noon. Those owning an organ
and wishing to practice for fun
or profit should attend.
dena in 1937 and 1938. Robinson
also played at UCLA and was on
the Dodger major league baseball
team when it was in Brooklyn.
In 1949 Robinson became the first
Negro to play on a major league
professional baseball team.
DR. ARMEN Sarafian, presi¬
dent of PCC, personally invited
Robinson to what may be the best
Homecoming in college history.
Robinson accepted from his home
in Connecticut.
He will be the keynote speaker
at the Homecoming Banquet ’65 in
the student dining room. Rob¬
inson will also ride in the digni¬
taries and organizations parade
around Horrell Field before the
game, and he may crown the
Homecoming queen during half¬
time. The queen contest is now
being held on the PCC campus.
WHILE at Pasadena, he letter¬
ed in college football (twice), bas¬
ketball (once), track (twice), and
baseball (twice). Robinson still
holds many school records includ¬
ing the national junior college
broad jump record of 25’6%”.
In football, he holds school rec¬
ords for scoring 131 points, run¬
ning over 1000 yards in nine
games, and scoring 17 touch¬
downs.
Robinson also holds the record
for the longest run from scrim¬
mage, 99 yards. He also shares
the longest punt return record of
83 yards.
IN HIS two years at PCC he
also won many honors. One was
the Helm’s Athletic Foundation
Player of the Year in 1938. In
1938 he led PCC to a champion¬
ship in baseball with a .417 bat¬
ting average and stole 25 bases in
24 games. That same year he was
named the most valuable JC play¬
er in Southern California.
Robinson, as tailback, led the
1938-39 undefeated-untied football
team to a conference champion¬
ship.
In basketball he led the 1937
team to a conference and state
title.
Confusion on Campus:
Where Is Lady Spirit ?
A shrill cry for help was heard above the ragtime music of the
Lancer Dixieland band. From the midst of a dismayed crowd of stu¬
dents came a black-garbed figure with a struggling young sprite,
gaily arrayed in red and gold, slung across his sloping shoulders.
The place was the PCC student lounge. The occasion was yes¬
terday’s AWS ragtime reception, a happy affair marred by the ab¬
duction of Lady Spirit.
The suspect, tentatively identified by head cheerleader Matt
Jefferson as Campus Apathy, has interferred with Lady Spirit’s
work in the past. Miss Spirit recently stepped up her campaign to
educate apathetic students at PCC.
Approximately 400 students were witness to the foul deed which
happened so fast that before ASB leaders could recover from their
confusion, Campus Apathy had made his escape.
Witnesses are still being questioned and much confusion remains.
One bystander, overheard muttering “That’s camp,” denied knowing
Mr. Apathy personally. He said, “It was only my opinion.”
The all points bulletin on the suspect describes him as “tall, dark,
and apathetic.” Lady Spirit is blonde, blue-eyed, Red and Gold. If
anyone knows the whereabouts of Campus Apathy’s hide-out, please
contact Pep Commission headquarters in the Campus Center.
PARADE TIME — From left to right, Val Hughes, decorated car. Over 30 clubs will participate
Gail Hawks, Ron Hansen, and Yolanda Castruita in the parade with cars, fire engines, and even
are set for Friday's pre-game parade with their an airplane.
Colloquium Set
“The Psychic Wound of Ernest
Hemingway” will be the subject
of this week’s English coloqui-
urn. The presentation will be
delivered by James Hamilton,
Friday, in the Little Theater at
noon.
Club Meeting
A general meeting of the Inter¬
national Club is set for October
21 from 12 to 1 in Harbeson
Hall. Included will be a talent
show and an introduction of the
new officers as well as discus¬
sion of plans for future activi¬
ties.
DODGER GREAT — Jackie Robinson, PCC alumnus, will be the
featured guest at the banquet and game slated this week. Robin¬
son lettered in four sports at the college and later became the
second baseman on the 1955 world champions of Brooklyn.
