After four executive search
firms made their presentations,
the Board of Trustees voted
unanimously to select one to lead
the hunt for a permanent super¬
intendent Wednesday night.
“Ralph Anderson and As¬
sociates’ representative made a
great presentation tonight,” said
Trustee William Thomson. “The
Board feels comfortable with its
choice tonight. We can now for¬
ward in finding a president.”
Stan Arterberry of Ralph
Anderson and Associates was the
last to present to the board, but
impressed it the most, according
to Thomson.
“[Arterberry] seemed to be on
top of things with what’s going
on at the college,” Thomson said.
“He seemed to have a good grasp
about how to go about searching
for a superintendent.”
The board had selected Vicki
B. Nicholson, who served as
the associate vice president of
human resources for Glendale
Community College, to help find
the consultant firms at its Oct.
1 5 meeting. Board President An¬
thony Fellow said that the college
had never worked with Nichol¬
son before.
“She came very highly recom¬
mended by one of our outside
lawyers,” Fellow said.
Fellow said that since the PCC
human resources director reports
to the superintendent/president,
it would be better to get outside
resources to help with the search.
He said it would have been an
awkward situation for both
otherwise.

Pasadena City College stu¬
dents Angela Kim and Melissa
Perez have been chosen by
NASA to participate in their
National Community College
Aerospace Scholars program.
Perez, a computer science
major, and Kim, a mechanical
engineering major, had several
hurdles to clear before becoming
two of the lucky few who were
chosen by NASA.
An extensive application, a
shining recommendation from
a professor, and an impressive
GPA were all the necessary
requirements to even be consid¬
ered. According to Perez, more
than 400 students submitted
applications for this honor, but
only a handful were chosen to

As a result of an agreement between
PCC and Microsoft, students are now en¬
rolled in the Microsoft Student Advantage
Program, which allows them to download
and install Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus
desktop applications for free
The program is offered to currendy
enrolled students and allows them to run
Microsoft Office on up to five comput¬
ers (Mac or PC) and up to five additional
devices including smartphones, tablets,
and laptops. The latest versions of Office
are Office 2013 for Windows and Office
201 1 for Mac.
“Just in time for finals, students can
have free Microsoft Word and Microsoft
PowerPoint for those upcoming class
presentations and term papers,” said Dr.
Shelley Gaskin, a professor in the Business
and Computer Technology Department.
“Hundreds of colleges around the country
have this program, and now we have it
too!”
Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus is an
annual subscription and students will
continue to have access as long as they are
enrolled and have an active LancerPoint
email address. IT support services manag¬
er Todd Hampton and systems adminis¬
trator Rob Tirapelle developed the process
so that students are able to access the
free downloads by logging in using their
LancerPoint email and password.
