- Description
- Ruperto was a favored gardener at Pasadena's Jewett Estates on Arden Road. Walter Merrill of Pasadena was also a gardener. There were then eight fulltime gardeners taking care of the 9-acre estate, used for many films from Marx Brothers to 1980s Dynasty. William Kennon Jewett was heir to a railroad fortune and then president of New London Gold Mine in Colorado. He died in 1933 and his then wife, Elizabeth, lived at the estates until 1945.
