- At an extravagant birthday party for Realtor Ted Bartlett, left to right: Bob and Joan Williams of Pasadena, Dodger 2nd baseman Jim "Junior" Gillium, Ted and Lucille Bartlett, Dell and Joan Green of Pasadena. Joan Williams was the first African American to work in City Hall. In August of 1958, she was selected to be Miss Crown City. According to Bartlett, when the City realized that Williams was of African American descent, the City "all of a sudden did not have money for her float" for the Rose Parade. Captain Robert W. Williams, called "the patriarch of the Tuskeegee Airmen of World War 2", was the driving force behind the critically acclaimed 1995 HBO movie entitled "Tuskeegee Airmen".
