- This photograph is damaged in the bottom left. It had been attached to a piece of cardboard but has separated. Stamped on the back of the photograph is "Photograph by Lenare," 28, George Street Hanover Square, WI Telephone Mayfair 5889" "When Crummles Played" is hand written on the back of the photograph. There is a second handwritten note that is difficult to read. It may reference the act and scene depicted. "Pasadena City College Library Archives" is stamped on the back of the cardboard. It is believed that the complete title of the play is "When Crummles Played: being the full text of [George] Lillo's tragedy of The London Merchant, or George Barnwell, acted by Mr. Vincent Crummles' Company at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith under the direction of Mr. Nigel Playfair" written in 1927.
