Home Construction Program
Launched in 1948 by Dean Reinhold, a construction class instructor, this program provided an opportunity for students to build a home on campus. Reinhold felt that this would be the most effective way of training both designers and those in the construction trades. With support from local trade unitons and subsidies from the State Department of Vocational Education, students began construction of their first five-room, redwood-sided bungalow next to the campus in March of 1948. Students and Reinhold went on to build 13 homes before the instructor retired in 1962. In this collection one will find photos of the program during Reinhold's leadership. The program has continued by the actual construction after Reinhold left moved to vacant lots in the community.
